From RN to LMT
My lifetime goals have been to help others and travel. I have done both, extensively,
and am not finished yet! My career began as an ICU nurse and lasted 30+ years in the hospital setting. In order to fulfill
my travel lust and help people too, I became a Peace Corps nurse in S.E. Asia. After my job was completed, I chose to return
overland by motorcycle and bus (thru the middle east). This fascinating trip from Indonesia to England offered me a good comparison
of different approaches to health care. The experience inspired me to a fuller appreciation of our wonderful country. However,
it made me realize the lack of importance given to alternative therapies in our health care system.
Our society seems
to rely on prescription medicine and surgery. Perhaps more attention should be given to less toxic, less invasive methods
for pain and stress management such as; massage, yoga, and herbal medicine. As a nurse, I have seen numerous unnecessary surgeries
and harmful effects of medications. As the hospital care became more mechanical, it became less personal and less involved
with the emotional needs of the patient. Consequently, I decided to help people in a more comforting, less dangerous, and
less invasive way. I have never regretted my career
Through massage, I have relieved, and often eliminated, both temporary
and chronic pain and stress.
